Sentence Length and ComplexityChildren’s knowledge of grammar is developmental. Children learn how to order and sequence words in sentences (to use grammar). They use grammar to‘unpack’ sentences and to link the concepts in the intended ways.
They learn to use: - more complex structures such as the passive - voice, sentences that have subordinate clauses pronoun agreement and verb-tense agreement more complex word categories such as prepositions, logical connectives, adverbs - more complex sentence propositions (Adapted from Munro, 2008) Posters
